ABOUT JIMMY DAWSON
Jimmy Dawson has been Principal of Acton Middle School since June 2008. Mr. Dawson succeeded long-time Granbury educator Bobby Mabery after he retired. Jimmy Dawson came to Granbury in the spring of 2003 as the Principal of Granbury Middle School. Mr. Dawson served at GMS for 4 years, and helped GMS to it's first "Recognized" rating in the school's existance of it's new building. Now, AMS is celebrating their most recent "Exemplary" rating by Texas Education Agency. Mr. Dawson attributes the success to a wonderful group of teachers who are dedicated and passionate for student learning.
Jimmy Dawson grew up in Canyon, Texas where he graduated high school in 1988. Both his parents recieved their education degrees, and later opened their own Insurance and Financial Company where they retired from after 25 years of service. Mr. Dawson has been married for 19 years to his wife, Leah, who serves as the Librarian at Acton Elementary. He has two wonderful children, Drew (13) & Delaney (10). He attended Abilene Christian University and recieved a Bachelors degree in Physical Education (1992). Mr. Dawson continued with his masters program while coaching and teaching at Borger ISD. He recieved his masters degree from West Texas A&M University (1996) and then attended Texas Tech University to complete his Superintendent Certification in 2000.
Mr. Dawson has served four years as Middle School Assistant Prinicipal in Borger, Texas, four years Elementary Principal in Plainview, Texas, and now beginning his 9th year as Middle School Principal. He was honored twice by the Plainview Daily Herald as "Principal of the Year", nominated twice for Tarleton State's Effective Schools Instructional Leader award, and 2009 recieved the TSU Effective Schools "Instructional Leadership Award". In 2011, he was honored as a semi-finalist by the new HEB for the Principal Excellence in Education Award. Mr. Dawson serves on the Hood County United Way Board and Adult Bible Class Committee Chairman for his local church.
In his spare time, he has completed 12 half marathons in the past three years, coached his children's sports teams, and enjoys playing golf. He really enjoys his family time with his wife and two children, and even the baseball and soccer games make for fun family weekends.
Mr. Dawson has been quoted by saying, "It is my pleasure to serve the students, faculty, parents, and community of Acton Middle School. Our campus is striving daily to help grow our students and prepare them to be college and career ready."
