History of the GHS Stowaways
23 Years in the making

The Stowaways became a performing drill team in 1986.  There were 21 girls on the first team and they were asked to vote on the team name.  They chose "Stowaways" because it went well with the Pirate mascot.  Ms. Lineal Tankersly was the sponsor until 1989.

Then in 1989 Ms. Jana Reid took over as director and continued until 1993.  She took them to their first competitions, away camps and began many traditions like the end of year banquet that are still in place today.  There have been six directors since then: Ms. Marci Hargrove, Ms. Angie Craig, Ms. Heather Blauvelt-Rodgers, Ms. Kristi Millican, Ms. Ashley Baker-Gaither, Ms. Susan Pearson, and now Brittany Freeman.

With this many director changes the team has undergone some growing pains.  With the help of Ms. Gaither the Stowaways grew to three teams; the Varsity, the JV and an 8th grade team from each middle school. As of 2009-2010 the JV and Varsity combined allowing freshman the opportunity to be on varsity.

The Stowaways are an amazingly talented group of young ladies that aren't afraid of hard work and take great pride in their craft.

If you were ever part of the Stowaway organization, please fill in the information below and include the years that you were on the team.  Also, if you have a team picture from year's past please email those along with team members name to include on this site.
