HELPFUL INFORMATION FROM
ACTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
VIDEO MONITORING EQUIPMENT
In order to provide a safe and secure learning environment for your student; GISD has installed video monitoring equipment at the
front entrance. Please alert the front office of your arrival by pressing the button on the monitoring system. After a receptionist
greets you, please provide your name and reason for your visit. Proceed to the front office when you have been cleared to enter
the building.
CHECKING STUDENTS OUT OF SCHOOL
Anyone checking a student out during school hours will need to provide a current drivers license or other appropriate identification. Your driver’s license will be scanned into the Raptor System and information regarding the reason the student is being checked out will be entered at the same time. Your student will be called to the office once the procedure is complete.
WHO CAN CHECK A STUDENT OUT OF SCHOOL
Anyone listed on the student’s registration record will be allowed to check a student out at AES. When someone other than
person/persons listed on a student’s registration record is checking a student out, they must have a note signed and dated by a
parent or guardian acknowledging they have permission to pick up your student that day. Check out procedures as described
above will then be followed.
Occasionally, the front office may find it necessary to contact a parent or guardian to verify information.
AES encourages parents to provide the office with written documentation of any additional individual’s who they authorize to
pick up their student throughout the school year.
CHECKING IN AFTER SCHOOL HAS STARTED
Parents need to escort their student to the front office to be checked in. Students arriving after school has started are required
to stop by the front office and provide documentation (doctor/dentist visit, etc…) for late arrival. The information is important
as it pertains to the students’ attendance record.
EXTRA BUS RIDER PROCEDURE
AES requires both students to provide permission slips from their parent or guardian to ride the bus home together. Please
include the names of the students, the date, a drop-off address, and bus route number. To obtain an extra rider slip both notes
should be presented to the office at the beginning of the school day. Only written documentation will be accepted for extra
bus rider arrangements.
Students will not be allowed to use office phones to make bus riding arrangements during the instructional day.
LUNCH VISITORS
Parents or guardians are welcome to join students for lunch. An adult must accompany minor or school age children visiting
AES for lunch. Other lunch visitors, relatives or, adult siblings will need to provide the office with written permission from the
student’s parents or guardian. Visitors will eat on the stage. Visitors aren’t allowed on the playground.
Visitors aren’t allowed on testing days.
PARENTS AND GUARDIANS MAY BRING IN AN OUTSIDE LUNCH FOR THEIR STUDENT ONLY.
TELEPHONE USAGE AND MESSAGES
Parents should make special transportation or after school arrangements with students before three arrive at school. Campuses
cannot assume responsibility for delivery of messages. AES will not deliver messages after 2:00, with the exception of an emergency. Classes will not be interrupted to deliver messages to students. Please refer to Telephone Usage and Messages in
the 2011-2012 Parent – Student Handbook.
The safety of our students is our primary concern; however we do want visitors to feel welcome at AES. We encourage you to
call the office if you have any questions regarding Acton Elementary School campus procedures.
DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
AES requires anyone picking up students to have a card that matches the student’s dismissal number for K-2 students. Anyone without a corresponding card must park and check the student out in the office. A driver’s license will be required.
