If you visit several parts of Texas, you will likely see three recent graduates of Granbury High School delivering the news and weather for television stations.
Having graduated from GHS in 2002, Clay Falls is a reporter with CBS affiliate KBTX-TV in Bryan-College Station. He previously worked with another station in the Tyler-Longview area. Falls holds a broadcast journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he interned at the NBC affiliate in the capital city and also served as anchor/reporter/photographer for KVR News, the university’s student-produced news station.
Kristen Shanahan left GHS in 2007 also bound for UT to pursue a broadcast journalism degree – “something I always knew I wanted to do since my senior year of high school after working for my local television station Channel 27.” She was one of fifteen students chosen to enter the Radio, Television & Film program and she hosted a program on the university’s TSTV. Shanahan now works for KXII, the CBS station serving the Sherman-Gainesville and Ada-Ardmore, Oklahoma region.
A 2008 alumnae of GHS and 2012 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Lauryn Gonzalez just started reporting as part of the Skywarn 6 Weather Team for KAUZ-TV, the CBS affiliate in Wichita Falls. While studying meteorology in college, Gonzalez was involved with the university’s student-run broadcast, OU Nightly, working as a weathercaster and reporter. She covered a major tornado in Atoka County in April 2011. In addition, Gonzalez served internships at WFAA-TV in Dallas, KWTV-9 in Oklahoma City, and the Storm Prediction Center in Norman.
