Granbury ISD stadiums are sporting new scoreboards thanks to the efforts for an athletic booster club and the generosity of several local businesses.
The Pirate Stadium scoreboard overhaul was spearheaded by Touchdown Club president Susan May, who went to work getting sponsorships for the $85,000 estimated cost to replace the previous one used in the stadium for more than a decade for football and soccer games. It will feature LED lighting and a digital video loop board.
Local businesses sponsoring the high school scoreboard were First National Bank of Granbury, Chicken Express, H-E-B, and Jerry Durant Autogroup.
“I want to commend the Touchdown Club for taking this project on. This would not have happened without the hard of work of Susan May and her husband, Jayson,” commented GISD athletic director Dwight Butler. “Our community sponsors also deserve recognition for stepping up on behalf of our student athletes and fans who will enjoy seeing the new scoreboards.”
The Touchdown Club is also leading an effort to improve the entrance of the stadium with a wrought iron fence and stone ticket booth. An old concession stand, old restrooms, and an awning have been removed in preparation for the project.
In addition to the new scoreboard at Pirate Stadium, those at Acton Middle School and Granbury Middle School also got facelifts thanks to funding earmarked for athletic programs from a long-standing contract the district has had with Coca-Cola.
The middle school scoreboards are also equipped to handle track meets as well. Both schools had overhauls of their tracks earlier this year – helping to restore the facilities for competitions, which will include high school contests at GMS.
