Lieutenant Colonel Scott Casey recently took command of the Marine Corps JROTC program in Granbury ISD and will serve as the Senior Marine Instructor for cadets at Granbury High School and Crossland Ninth Grade Center.
“I want to continue to build on a successful program providing the cadets of GISD the leadership skill set to be successful in their endeavors after graduating from high school,” commented Lt. Col. Casey. “Additionally, I would like to increase the college scholarship opportunities for every cadet that desires to attend college."
A native of Amarillo, Casey participated in the Marine Corps JROTC at Caprock High School and was a member of the rifle team and color guard. He attended West Texas A&M University on a rifle scholarship, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education and receiving his Texas state teaching certificate.
Following his college graduation, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps through the Platoon Leaders Class program and attended The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia.
Serving since 1991, his military service included two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a border transition team chief, border transition brigade executive officer, and a task force military police executive officer.
Casey’s most recent duty since the summer of 2010 was as district executive officer of the 8th Marine Corps District in Fort Worth. He retired in May to accept the position at GHS.
His personal awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
"My desire to be a part of the Granbury MCJROTC surrounds the goal of giving back to a great program that I was a part of 25 years ago,” Casey said. “During my three years as a cadet, my experience . . . provided me the leadership qualities and work ethic that allowed me to achieve my goals in life. With my degree in secondary education I have always had the intention of returning to the high school setting to encourage students to follow their dreams - all things are achievable and I want Granbury MCJROTC program to be that catalyst in helping students achieve their goals after high school."
Casey joins 1StSgt Johnny Rositas, who is beginning his third school year in GISD.
