GISD, GHS MAINTAIN EXEMPLARY STUDENT COMPLETION RATE

August 8, 2012

The completion rate for Granbury ISD and Granbury High School students remains at the Exemplary level and far exceeds the state average, according to a new report issued by the Texas Education Agency.

“This is a great accomplishment for our students and teachers – and is a reflection of the hard work of so many people,” commented superintendent Dr. James Largent. “Having a strong completion rate means that our high school offers students the best education in this area – with strong academics, innovative career and technical programs, competitive athletics, phenomenal fine arts, and numerous college-ready and post-secondary initiatives. There isn’t a better choice in Hood County than GISD.”

The percentages indicate solid Exemplary performance in every area for both GISD and GHS. Granbury students exceed the state graduation rate of 85.9% - with both GISD and posting completion rates around 97%.

“This is all about the end game,” said Largent. “A high school student with a diploma has so many more post-secondary opportunities, such as university, community college, technical school, and the military.”

Although TEA is not issuing accountability ratings in 2012, the chart below shows the Exemplary level for both the district and high school:

The completion rate for both GISD and GHS includes students who graduated or continued high school for a fifth year of education. Both the district and the high school must meet standards for the student group as a whole as well as three socioeconomic categories – white students, Hispanic students, and economically disadvantaged students.

Student completion is evaluated on a lag year, meaning that districts and schools are being judged in 2012 for the Class of 2011, which was the first group required to meet the “four-by-four graduation requirements to earn four high school credit in each of the four core areas of mathematics, science, social studies, and English. Students who earn a general equivalency degree (GED) only calculate for alternative campuses.
