Two members of the Lady Pirate track team excelled during the state championships of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation held July 27, 2012, in Corpus Christi.
Granbury High School senior Shelby Cline, who set a school high jump record of 5’2” in the spring, improved considerably during both TAAF qualifying and the competition. She cleared a personal best 5’4” to qualify, and then broke that with a 5’6” jump to place second at the meet.
A freshman at Crossland Ninth Grade Center, Jettin Murphy cleared 5’0” in the high jump during qualifying and then hit the 4’8” mark in the intermediate girls division at the state contest.
“This was a great summer for these two jumpers,” commented head coach Mike Pinkerton.
Cline also was nominated for TAAF Local Athlete of the Year, while Murphy also participated in the AAU Junior Olympics this summer.
