ActonElementary School held a reception to thank a group of student mentors on May 19, 2009.
At the beginning of the school year, teacher Anna Roe and counselor Pamela Thompson organized the program as a way to assist students and also to promote involvement by community members.
The mentors dedicated at least thirty minutes each week.They met individually with students to build a trusting, structured relationship to offer support, encouragement, friendship, and a positive role model.The volunteers also helped students with school work, including reading and math.
