PIRATE TRACK TEAM SENDING FIVE TO REGIONAL MEET

Jeff FinnClay KennedyFive members of the Pirate Track team will be competing at the Class 4A Region I Track and Field Meet.  The students earned the chance to take part in the regional contest after winning one of the top three places at the District 8-4A tournament held April 16-17, 2009, at the University of Texas at Arlington.

 

Junior Jeff Finn and senior Clay Kennedy tied for first in the pole vault with matching twelve-foot jumps.  Finn won the tie-breaker with fewer misses.

 

The 800-meter relay team earned third.  The team is composed of Finn, juniors Drew Mainini and Joe Wallace, and freshman Brandon Davis.

 

Of the five, Kennedy will be making his third consecutive appearance in the regional competition.

Complete results from the district meet were:

 

  • High Jump:  Michael Brown, fourth (5’11”)
  •  
  • Pole Vault:  Jeff Finn, first (12’0”); Clay Kennedy, first (12'0") [tied – Finn won tiebreaker with fewer misses]
  •  
  • 110m Hurdles:  Joe Wallace, fifth (16.05)
  •  
  • 800m Relay:  Brandon Davis, Joe Wallace, Drew Mainini, Jeff Finn, third (1:31.5)
  •  
  • 1600m Relay:  Jeff Finn, Joe Wallace, Drew Mainini, Shawn Sadler, fifth (3:30.2) 

The regional meet will be held on May 1-2, 2009, at LeGrand Sports Complex on the campus of Angelo State University in San Angelo.
