GHS SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM POSTS STRONG RESULTS AT ABILENE COOPER TOURNAMENT

Speech and debate students from Granbury High School posted strong results at a Texas Forensic Association (TFA) tournament held at Abilene Cooper High School on November 15, 2008.  This includes first place wins by Afton Strain in both Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking and Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

 
The complete results from the tournament were:
  • Cross-Examination Debate:  Alex Temple and Austin Williams, advanced to quarter-finals.
  • Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking:  Afton Strain, first.
  • Lincoln-Douglas Debate:  Afton Strain, first; Daniel Knox, advanced to quarter-finals.
  • Student Congress:  Paige Bolton, fifth; Andrew Hoyler, eighth.
Other students competing were Hunter Beck, Katherine Berry, Josh Cutler, Leah Derrington, Wyat Jamieson, Cassie Lamberd, Andrew Smith, Calvin Smith, and Jacob Thompson.
 

The tournament was sponsored by the Texas Forensic Association (TFA).  The organization promotes the interests of interscholastic speech and theatre by encouraging a spirit of fellowship among participating students and teachers.  Activities viewed as central to the organization's function include debate, theatre, and competitive individual speaking events.
