Amy Wood, technology director for Granbury ISD, recently was honored by Abydos Learning International at its state conference held March 4-7, 2010, in Houston.

With the organization’s director Dr. Joyce Armstrong Carroll, Wood co-authored a teacher resource book entitled Dr. JAC’s Math: Reading, Writing Connections.

Formerly known as the New Jersey Writing Project in Texas (NJWPT), Abydos is a research-based program that improves the teaching of writing by increasing the teacher’s knowledge base through hands-on demonstrations and the integration of all language arts skills.  Participants learn effective methods to teach grammar, strategies to meet individual student needs, and ways to improve student attitudes toward writing.

Wood has been a trainer for the program since 2004.  Serving as a trainer requires certification every three years, and the process includes a year of research that concludes with a presentation before peers at the annual conference.

Previously the district’s instructional technology coordinator, Wood became the technology director in August 2009.  She also co-authored Writing in Math Really Counts training.
