“Dr. Largent is an incredible leader, and we know that he will help move Granbury ISD forward,” said school board president Charlie Cloud. “We look forward for our staff and community to meet him.”
Largent brings fourteen years of experience as a superintendent – three at Chireno (1998-2001) and eleven at Rusk (2001 – present), where he currently serves. The Rusk school district has received a Recognized rating from the Texas Education Agency for the past two year. His prior administrative experience includes four years as the high school principal in Queen City (1994-1998) and three years as high school assistant principal in Coldspring-Oakhurst.
Beginning his educational career in 1987 at Woodville, Largent worked as a history and physical education teacher, coach, and athletic trainer. He later worked in Henderson with similar duties before moving on to Coldspring-Oakhurst, where he was also the head baseball coach in addition to his administrative duties.
The prospective GISD superintendent holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership from Sam Houston State University, where he also earned a master’s degree in educational administration. For his bachelor’s degree from Lamar University, Largent studied history and physical education.
Largent was twice nominated for the Region VII superintendent of the year in both 2010 and 2011. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Rusk Chamber of Commerce for 2008, and he also received the Main Street Award for visionary efforts in promoting community growth.
He and his wife, Jeri Ellen, have two children. In Rusk, he is active in several community and church activities.
Trustees will meet on Tuesday, April 17 to consider final action on hiring Largent. State law requires school boards to publicly disclose the name of a finalist at least twenty-one days prior to taking final action on hiring.
The Granbury ISD Board of Trustees has named Dr. James Largent as the lone finalist to be the next Superintendent of Schools. The announcement came during a special called meeting on March 26, 2012.
