The completion rate for Granbury ISD and Granbury High School students has reached the Exemplary level, according to a report issued by the Texas Education Agency along with state accountability ratings.
“We are very pleased that the data confirms that nearly every Granbury student is completing their high school education,” stated superintendent Ron Mayfield. “District and high school staff have developed an effective system for tracking these students, and this high completion rate is the result of hard work on the part of many individuals.”The completion rate for both GISD and GHS includes students who graduated or continued high school for a fifth year of education. Both the district and the high school must meet standards for the student group as a whole as well as three socioeconomic categories – white students, Hispanic students, and economically disadvantaged students.
For Granbury’s 2011 state accountability ratings issued on July 29, 2011, TEA only considered the completion rate for students as a whole as well as white students.The percentages indicate solid Exemplary performance in almost every area for both GISD and GHS. Among Hispanic students, the completion rate for the district was fractions of a percent below the 95% exemplary standard.Student completion is evaluated on a lag year, meaning that districts and schools are being judged in 2011 for the Class of 2010. Students who earn a general equivalency degree (GED) only calculate for alternative campuses.In 2009, when the completion rate began counting for accountability purposes, both GISD and GHS missed the acceptable benchmark for economically disadvantaged students in the Class of 2008. Efforts began immediately to identify students who had left the district without completing their education. Several returned and eventually received their high school diploma that year, making both the district and high school Recognized for this category in 2010.
