The Lady Pirate swept all seven schools in the round-robin district play in 2010, earning the District 7-4A title and posting a perfect 14-0 district record. The three-game playoff run included victories over San Angelo Lake View and Springtown before falling to Aledo.
In 2009, the girls made their first post-season appearance since 1996. The quarterfinal defeat to Denton Ryan followed playoff wins over Fort Worth Dunbar and The Colony.
“We can no longer have the underdog mindset, but we’re okay with that,” said head coach Tammy Clark. “But they’re not satisfied with their finish last year, even though it was a great season. We felt like we should have gone farther.”
Returning varsity members are Laiken Britt, Shannon Helm, Paige Holt, Madison Martin, Kathryn Middlebrook, and Sierra Smith. They are all seniors, except for juniors Helm and Holt.
Joining the varsity court are seniors Carley White and Hayden Winslow; juniors Blair Cowden, Amy Mendoza, and Jenna Underwood; sophomore Sydney Carpenter; and freshman Aubrey Ezell.
Handling sports medicine duties are athletic trainer Connie Rhodes and student trainers Robert Burnham, Treasure Colladay, Madison Dove, Charlie Houk, Mitchell Knox, Emily Phillips, Cody Reynolds, Katie Siegler, and Paige Tull.
