New student council officers are at the helm of Acton Middle School for the 2011-12 school year.

The new officers are (left to right) Andrew Reid, parliamentarian; Lillian Hyde, treasurer; Luke Elliott, president; Lily Thornton, secretary; and Kayla Curtis, reporter/historian.  Not pictured is vice president Jennifer Boldenow.  The students are all eighth graders.

The group attended a workshop on the campus of Austin College in Sherman on June 13-17 to prepare for their new leadership roles and to learn innovative ideas to help their school and community.

Each year, the student council undertakes several community service projects.  Plans are already underway for an initiative during Red Ribbon Week and for a Christmas drive to donate teddy bears to Cook Children’s Hospital.
