In the playoff match, the Granbury girls won the first game 25-21 over Trophy Club Byron Nelson. The Lady Bobcats, though, rallied to take the next three games (22-25, 20-25, 25-27) to advance to the regional tournament.
“It was a hard fought match going point-for-point,” commented Lady Pirate head coach Tammy Clark. “Both teams played very hard, and we congratulate Byron Nelson on the win.”
Early in the season, the Granbury squad repeated as champions of the Double T tournament hosted by Trinity High School.
The girls ended district play with a 13-1 record, having posted thirteen straight wins for their second straight District 7-4A championship. Their only loss came in the first district game versus the Burleson Lady Elks on September 9. Following that, the Lady Pirates were on a winning streak – including a drubbing of Burleson at home on October 4.
The Lady Pirates defeated Killeen in the bi-district round (25-13, 25-8, 25-13) on November 1 in Hamilton. That was followed by an area-round victory (25-16, 25-22, 25-12) over Saginaw Boswell on November 3 at Weatherford High School.
“It was an excellent season. We had continued improvement from start to finish,” Clark said. “We had the intensity and focus of a team that kept driving toward its goal. This was a group of hard workers and competitive spirits, and it was a lot of fun to coach these athletes.”
The varsity court included Laiken Britt, Alexis Carpenter, Sydney Carpenter, Blair Cowden, Aubrey Ezell, Shannon Helm, Paige Holt, Madison Martin, Amy Mendoza, Kathryn Middlebrook, Sierra Smith, and Jenna Underwood. Moving up from the junior varsity squad were Kali Jones, Caitlyn Thatcher, and Kylie Wheeler.
