The girls racked up victories over Midlothian (48-18) and Fort Worth Trimble Tech (75-48) during the tourney’s first day before defeating Argyle (39-23) on the second day to advance to the title match. The team beat Jim Ned 45-41 to win the championship.
Junior post Lilley Vander Zee - who netted 44 points in the Trimble Tech game - was the tourney’s most valuable player, while senior guards Maddie Cox and Kristen Mozingo were named to the all-tournament team.
“The win is a good shot in the arm for the program,” said head coach Leta Andrews, noting that the girls are undefeated thus far in the 2011 season with a 7-0 record in non-district play.
In addition to the all-tourney players, the 2011 squad consists of Ashley Bonugli, Shelby Cline, Lauren Clough, Bailey Cole, Morgan Northcutt, and Sierra Trotter.
Andrews is assisted by Marci Davis, Mike Pinkerton, and Dina Carlton. Serving as manager is Jenny Fanelli. Handling sports medicine duties is athletic trainer Connie Rhodes along with student trainers Cali Cummings and Erika Schat.
