Travis Benson Granbury High School golfer Travis Benson was tops at the boys’ first golf tournament of the spring season in the Bearcat Classic held February 10-11, 2012, at the Split Rail Links & Golf Club near Aledo.

Benson, a GHS junior, tied for first individually but lost a scorecard playoff to a Mansfield Legacy player.

“The conditions were tough but Travis kept a positive attitude throughout the whole tournament,” commented head coach Steve Ward.  “His mental toughness is improving with every tournament.”

The team’s results from the tournament were:  Benson (74-84 = 158), Austin Kinsey (78-87 = 165), Zac Wall (89-86 = 175), Derek Williams (94-90 = 184), and Patrick Wilson (98-92 = 190).

“The weather both days was tough, especially on Saturday when the wind-chill never got out of the 20’s,” said Ward.  “The boys fought hard through the elements and gained some valuable experience playing in these conditions.”

The varsity squad next competes at the region preview on February 24-25 at the Diamondback Golf Club in Abilene.
