LADY PIRATES OVERPOWER WACO IN BI-DISTRICT BASKETBALL

Lady Pirate Basketball
 

The Lady Pirate basketball team at Granbury High School surged in the third quarter to defeat Waco 52-32 in Class 4A bi-district playoff on February 14, 2012, at Hill College in Hillsboro.

 

Lilley Vander Zee led the team with 26 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 blocks.  A last second three-pointer by Ashley Bonguli just before halftime gave the Granbury girls a 24-22 lead.  Those followed two important three-pointers by Kristen Mozingo.

 

The girls advance to the area round and will face Fort Worth Western Hills on Friday, February 17 at 6:00 P.M. at Fort Worth ISD’s Wilkerson-Grienes Activity Center.

 

The varsity squad includes Ashley Bonugli, Shelby Cline, Lauren Clough, Bailey Cole, Maddie Cox, Whitney Matos, Kristen Mozingo, Morgan Northcutt, Sierra Trotter, and Lilley Vander Zee.  Moving up from sub-varsity teams for the playoffs are Mikayla Carpenter, Breanna Crain, Caroline Forrest, Kali Jones, and Hannah West.

 

Head coach Leta Andrews is assisted by Marci Davis, Mike Pinkerton, Dina Carlton, and athletic trainer Connie Rhodes.
