Following a remarkable season concluding at the regional tournament, the Lady Pirate basketball team was rewarded with eight players receiving District 7-4A honors.

 

Junior Lilley Vander Zee was named the district’s offensive player of the year.

 

Selected for the first team was senior Maddie Cox, while junior Ashley Bonugli and sophomore Morgan Northcutt made the second team. Receiving honorable mention recognition was junior Bailey Cole.

 

In 2011, both Cox and Vander Zee were second-team honorees.  Vander Zee was the newcomer of the year in 2010.

 

Those on the all-district teams were:

 

  • Offensive Player of the Year:  Lilley Vander Zee
  • First Team:  Maddie Cox
  • Second Team:  Ashley Bonugli, Morgan Northcutt
  • Honorable Mention:  Bailey Cole

Eight players also received Academic All-District recognition:  seniors Maddie Cox and Kristen Mozingo; juniors Ashley Bonugli, Shelby Cline,  Bailey Cole, and Lilley Vander Zee; and sophomores Lauren Clough and Morgan Northcutt.

 

In addition to Granbury, District 7-4A is composed of Arlington Seguin, Burleson, Cleburne, Crowley, Everman, Joshua, and Mansfield Summit.
