Three Granbury High School students excelled at the regional competition of the 11th Annual Bus Safety Speech Contest on March 6, 2012, at the Mansfield ISD transportation facility.

Senior Stephen Carver, junior Astrid Avila, and sophomore Rachael Rodgers all won first place in their grade level and will compete at the state competition on April 30 at the Region XII education service center in Waco.

Also competing was Melanie Lively-Adams, a freshman at Crossland Ninth Grade Center.

This marks the fourth-straight year that Carver advanced to the contest’s state level.

The contest is sponsored by the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation.  Contestants had to compose and present an original speech based on the theme, "How to Stop Bullying…On the Bus, at School, and on the Street.”  The students had to recite their speeches from memory but also were required to submit typewritten copies of the speech along with a complete and accurate bibliography.
