Thirteen Lady Pirates and their head coach received all-district recognition with the selection of the District 15-4A soccer team.
The honors follow the girls winning their second district championship in a row and advancing to the sectional playoff game in Class 4A post-season play.
Senior Alex Grossman, sophomore Maggie McKenna, and freshman Lydia Rife received top honors for the team. Grossman was named Most Valuable Player, while McKenna and earned offensive and defensive newcomer recognition respectively.
Coach David Winkleman also received the district’s Coach of the Year honors for the second year in a row.
Seniors Sydney Barnette and Sarah Phillips along with junior Mallory Bersi and sophomore Kelci Slaughter were named to the first team. Selected for the second team were senior Gentry Railsback, junior Aubrey Caudle, and sophomore Hannah Hiler. Receiving honorable mention recognition
were junior Ashley Dyson and sophomores Courtney Heathington and Lily Middleton.
The complete list selected for the all-district honors is below:
- Most Valuable Player: Alex Grossman
- Offensive Newcomer of the Year: Maggie McKenna
- Defensive Newcomer of the Year: Lydia Rife
- First Team: Sydney Barnette, Mallory Bersi, Sarah Phillips, Kelci Slaughter
- Second Team: Aubrey Caudle, Hannah Hiler, Gentry Railsback
- Honorable Mention: Ashley Dyson, Courtney Heathington, Lily Middleton
- Coach of the Year: David Winkleman
Last year, Phillips and Slaughter won superlative awards as the offensive MVP and defensive newcomer respectively. Barnette, Grossman, and Railsback made the first team. Bersi made the second team, and Middleton was an honorable mention selection.
In 2010, Phillips was a first-team honoree, with Grossman and Railsback on the second team. Barnette was chosen for the honorable mention list.
In addition to Granbury, the district includes Alvarado, Cleburne, Crowley, Joshua, and Venus.
