Dear AMS Family,
Beginning Tuesday, September 6th, AMS staff and students will be trying something brand new to our school. We will be organizing and implementing an Advisory period within our school day. This Advisory period will be immediately following the lunches and will only be held on Tuesday and Thursday for 30 minutes.
The Advisory time will serve multiple functions for our students and staff. It will allow students time to be involved in unique clubs of interest, along with giving students in need of intervention opportunities for additional time needed to grow academically. Students have been given a choice as to what club or activities they would like to join during the designated time.
After the first 6 weeks, our staff will review and assess the progress with our Advisory time, and we will make the necessary adjustments for student success. Our goal is to allow students to move and/or rotate to their club or activity of interest.
Research has shown schools offering various activities and clubs help connect students and produce academic gains across the board. Our goal is for staff and students to connect in a variety of ways. This is directly aligned with our AMS Belief Statement.
Thank you for your support as we venture into new territory for our school. I am very confident that we can make this a fun and exciting experience for our students.
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to email or call me anytime.
Sincerely,
Jimmy D. Dawson
