  • Energy Conservation Savings Report - October 2014

On October 20, 2014, a representative of E3 and the Texas Association of School Boards, Mike Cothran, reported to trustees that the 2013 energy improvement plan exceeded expectations resulting in first-year savings of $281,862.73 for the school district.  The initiative included the replacement of 207 HVAC units that were over twenty years old and the installation of 15,000 new light fixtures and 468 lighting control sensors. In addition, for water conservation, a number of fixtures – including toilets, urinals, lavatory and kitchen faucets, showerheads, and ice machines – were replaced, and the football field was converted to synthetic turf.

Cothran indicated that guaranteed annual savings had been projected to be $240,178 for the project, which was initially funded through maintenance tax notes and later refunded through a stand-alone proposition on the November 2013 bond election. The district should realize annual savings in the range of $280,000 for the foreseeable future, according to Cothran.
