    Defeating a field of 28 competitors, former 8th grader Mann Vaghashia won the title of 2019-20 AMS Spelling Bee Champion. The winning word was “diaphoresis”.

    Mann also triumphed at the 2019-20 GISD Area 18 Spelling Bee. The winning word was "Harlem." Mann was set to proceed to the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee at TCU, but the event was cancelled amid COVID concerns. Congratulation, Mann!

    GENERAL SPELLING BEE INFORMATION:

    • Classroom-level Spelling Bees at AMS are typically held in October.
    • The top 10-15 students from each grade level in the classroom Bees will be invited to participate in the AMS Spelling Bee (usually in December, time and date coming soon; place is always the AMS Cafeteria).
    • Parents and family members are welcome to attend the AMS Spelling Bee. Every student who participates in the campus-level Bee will receive a certificate. The top two spellers will receive trophies.
    • The first-place AMS speller will advance to the Area 18 Spelling Bee held at the GISD Administration Building typically in January.
    • The Area 18 winner will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee schedule to be held at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
