Endorsement Options
Endorsements

All students are required to declare an endorsement in writing prior to entering the 9th grade. Students will be permitted to change their endorsement with counselor guidance.
There are five endorsement options, which allow students flexibility based on individual interests and career goals. Each endorsement category is designed to prepare students to successfully enter postsecondary education or the workforce upon graduation from high school.
The endorsement and the career areas to which they correspond are as listed below:
- STEM – Science, including Computer Science; Technology; Engineering and Mathematics;
- PUBLIC SERVICES – Education and Training; Government and Public Administration; Health Science; Human Services; and Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security;
- BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY – Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources; Architecture and Construction; Business Management and Administration; Finance; Hospitality and Tourism; Information Technology; Manufacturing; Marketing; Transportation; and Journalism, including broadcast journalism, newspaper, and public speaking;
- ARTS AND HUMANITIES – Fine Arts; Economics with Emphasis on Free Enterprise; English Language Arts; and Languages Other than English;
- MULTIDISCIPLINARY STUDIES – Allows students to take courses in several endorsement areas as listed
STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math)

STEM requires the completion of Algebra 2, Chemistry, and Physics
Mathematics: (Choose 2) (for a total of 5 math credits including Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2)
Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Calculus, DC Math (2 courses), Advanced Quantitative Reasoning
Science: (Choose 2) (for a total of 5 science credits including Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Biology, DC Science (2 courses), Anatomy and Physiology, Forensics, Aviation, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental, Aquatics, Environmental, Advanced Animal Science, Astronomy

Arts and Humanities

Arts and Humanities requires the completion of one additional mathematics course and one additional science course
Social Studies: Choose 5 credits (3 are part of FHSP)
World Geography, AP Human Geography, World History (includes AP), US History (includes AP and DC), US Government (includes AP and DC), Economics (includes AP), AP European History, Psychology, Sociology
English: Choose 4 credits (for a total of 7 English credits)
English IV (includes AP and DC), Humanities, Communication Applications (1/2 credit), AP English Literature and Composition, Literary Genres
Languages Other than English: Choose 4 levels of the same language or 2 levels from 2 different languages:
- Spanish
- French
- American Sign Language (cannot be split)
Dance: Four levels of Dance
Music: Four levels of Music, Band, or Choir
Theatre Arts: Four levels of Theatre Arts, Technical Theatre, or Theatre Production
Art: Art 1 and Choose 3 credits in the same discipline:
