  • Dr. Glenn's 3-Pointers for 4/17/19

    Good Morning GISD!

It’s always nice to have a short week. I want to thank everyone who has provided input on the G2025 Strategic Plan. Yesterday our strategic design team held its final meeting. Below is a summary of where the plan currently stands.

Also, on behalf of our board of trustees and administrative team we wish all of you a happy and safe Easter holiday!

    Here are this week’s 3-pointers:

    (1) G2025 Strategic Plan Update

The G2025 Strategic Design Team completed its work this week, with a recommendation going to the school board in May.  While there are big program changes ahead, we will have plenty of time for planning to evaluate before implementation.

Our vision, belief, and mission statements adopted in G2020 were affirmed by the current committee without change.

The committee also established seven strategic goals in the areas of academics, CTE, facilities, finance, extracurricular, personnel, and technology.  As you will see from the attached plan, whereas G2020 was project-focused for necessary facility and other improvements, G2025 is program-focused to primarily address academics, instruction, and student growth.  We also do not recommend a bond but do establish a plan for determining when growing enrollment requires new facilities or building expansions.

Action Teams met over the past several weeks to establish objectives and action steps to implement those goals.

Major strategic objectives, which include a corresponding list of fluid action steps, are:

    • We will engage all students academically through a district-wide reading initiative.
    • We will implement full-day pre-kindergarten beginning in the 2020-21 school year.
    • We will launch a Dual Language Program beginning in the 2020-21 school year.
    • We will provide, through maintenance and updates to all elementary schools, state of the art facilities for all current and future district programs within the existing budget structure.
    • We will implement competitive salaries to recruit and retain quality employees and institute a "grow your own" leadership program.
    • Beginning in the 2020-21 school year, every student will participate in an extracurricular activity, club, or organization and complete 20 hours of community service as a local requirement for graduation.

Other big changes coming likely in the 2020-21 school year include:

    • Dual Language Academy at Nettie Baccus Elementary School – this academy, which will attract both English and Spanish speakers to be part of a multi-language program, would operate similarly to the STEAM Academy at Mambrino and accept students from other attendance zones
    • Brawner Intermediate School becoming a K-5 campus
    • Emma Roberson becoming an Early Childhood Education Center to house all district pre-kindergarten classes and an employee day care.  PK will be full-day and open to eligible students based on existing enrollment criteria.  We will also pilot having PK open to children of district employees on a fee-based system.

While some of these changes will obviously lead to personnel shifts to other campuses, we will develop plans to ease this transition and allow opportunities for staff members to remain at their existing campus or to follow programs or grade levels to another campus.

  • G2025 Survey

Posted by GISD Communications Office on 1/17/2019

Please take time to complete the G2025 survey for the new district's new strategic plan initiative.

The survey is open now through Friday, February 1, 2019, at and available in both English and Spanish.

Strategic planning will establish district goals for the next several years in academics, career and technical education, extracurricular programs, facilities, finance, personnel, and technology.

You may complete the survey more than once. For instance, if you are an employee at campus A but have children at campus B, then you may submit both employee and parent survey responses.
