Goal of Testing: With guidance from the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM), Center for Disease Control (CDC), Texas Education Agency (TEA), Hood County Health Services; Granbury ISD will be implementing a phased-in approach to BinaxNOW rapid COVID-19 testing. Rapid antigen based testing will potentially give Granbury ISD the ability to quickly identify and isolate positive individuals before they can transmit the virus to others. In turn, this will help reduce the amount of absences for individuals waiting on test results and help to fast track treatment and quarantine for positive individuals and their close contacts. Participation in BinaxNOW rapid COVID-19 testing is voluntary according to each individual's preference.

2 Phases to COVID-19 testing:

Phase 1: Rapid COVID-19 testing for symptomatic staff members only. 

Phase 2: Rapid COVID-19 testing for symptomatic staff and students. Individuals less than the age of 18 must have parent/guardian permission before testing can be performed.

Phase 1 Protocol: Voluntary Symptomatic Staff Members

Phase 1 is voluntary testing for symptomatic staff members at Granbury ISD.  No one will be required to take a test. They may voluntarily receive the rapid antigen BinaxNOW COVID-19 test. The symptoms must be consistent with the current guidelines from the CDC and WCCHD. Symptoms are listed below.  

1. Sick at Home:  If a staff member is sick at home and they want a test, they should contact their campus office.
2. Sick at School: If a staff member gets sick while at school, they will be asked to immediately go to the isolation room and may volunteer to receive a test. If they choose not to test or wish to go home, they may do so immediately. This must be done quickly to reduce the spread of the virus.

• If the test is negative, the staff member should still follow-up with their physician to rule out COVID or receive an alternative diagnosis.
• If the test is positive, the staff member will be required to stay home for 10 days once symptoms begin to improve. They will also be encouraged to call their physician to let them know.

Phase 2 Protocol: Voluntary Symptomatic Students

Phase 2 is voluntary testing of symptomatic students at Granbury ISD. The symptoms must be consistent with the current guidelines from the CDC and Hood County Health Services.  No student will be required to take the test, and all students must have parent permission prior to having the test performed. Due to our campus being rural and most parents working all over central Texas, parent permission may be received over the phone by two people.  Parent permission slips will be available online, in the health office and will be sent home with information about the test. If the form is filled out in advance, the parents will still be notified prior to any testing.

1. Sick at Home: If a student member is sick at home and they want a test, the parent or guardian should contact the student's campus office.
2. Sick at School: If a student gets sick while at school, they will be asked to immediately go to the isolation room. Their parent/guardian will be called to come get them and they may decide if their child receives a test. 

• If the test is negative, the symptomatic student will be sent home following symptomatic protocol. The student should still follow-up with their physician to rule out COVID or receive an alternative diagnosis.
• If the test is positive, the student will be required to stay home for 10 days once symptoms begin to improve. They will also be encouraged to call their physician to let them know.

Granbury ISD plans to implement each phase as deemed appropriate over the course of the next few months. We want to address and educate our staff and community about the type of testing, the science behind it and the recommendations and policies Granbury ISD has put in place as directed by Hood County Health Service, CDC and TEA.

All test results will be submitted to the Hood County Health Service, DSHS and TDEM as required.

Protocolo de la fase 2: Estudiantes Sintomáticos Voluntarios

In Granbury ISD, we are committed to doing all we can to keep staff and students healthy and safe. What COVID-19 tests are used in this program?

This program uses BinaxNOW tests, which provide results in 15 minutes and are administered using a nasal swab in the front area of the nostril. These tests have been shown to be highly accurate, with accuracy rates of 97-98% for symptomatic individuals.

Who will be tested and when?

Granbury ISD we will be offering these tests to staff and students. These tests are optional, but we encourage all students and staff to participate in the testing program if they have symptoms.

How will the information from the tests be used?

If a parent has given permission for Granbury ISD to administer the BinaxNOW test for their child, your child’s school will call you to let you know that your student is experiencing symptoms and that they will be administering a BinaxNOW test. The test administrator will also call to share the results after the test has been administered. Additionally, the student’s parent or guardian will receive test results via text within 20 minutes and they will also receive a confirmation email within 24 hours.

The results will also be shared with the school/district and with the local health department to allow for public health reporting and contact tracing and to determine the stay-at-home period for individuals who test positive. Additionally, the total number of positive tests per school will also be shared with the Texas Department of State Health Services as is required by law.

What happens next?

Tests are available to all staff and students who are showing symptoms of COVID-19.  For a student to be tested their parent or guardian must complete a consent form at www.granburyisd.org/roadmap under COVID-19 Rapid Testing Program. 

If your child is experiencing symptoms and you would like for him/her to be tested, please do NOT send him/her to campus.

Además, el número total de pruebas positivas por escuela también se compartirá con el Departamento de Servicios de Salud del Estado de Texas como lo exige la ley.

¿Qué pasa después?

Las pruebas están disponibles para todo el personal y los estudiantes que muestran síntomas de COVID-19. Para que un estudiante sea examinado, sus padres o tutores deben completar un formulario de consentimiento en www.granburyisd.org/roadmap bajo COVID-19 Rapid Testing Program. 

Si su hijo tiene síntomas y le gustaría que se le hiciera una prueba, NO lo envíe al campus.
