Tidwell Field is regarded as one of the finest high school baseball fields around. The GHS baseball field was initially built in 1972 on the northeast corner of the campus. The field was moved to the current location after a flood in 1989. The field was named in honor of U.L. Tidwell.
Tidwell was an outstanding athlete for the Granbury Pirates in baseball, football, basketball and track. He went on to earn fame in minor league baseball. Tidwell returned to Granbury and served as the public address announcer for both Pirate baseball and football for 45 years. He was very involved in Granbury ISD as well as the Granbury community.

In February of 2008 facility improvements for Tidwell Field were completed by GISD. We now have seating for approximately 700 fans, a larger press box, concessions building, restrooms and plenty of storage area. The project exceeded all expectations. In January of 2010 through the efforts of the baseball booster club an indoor hitting and pitching facility was added just west of Tidwell field. This facility allows the Pirate teams to practice in any type of weather. We would like to invite everyone to come and enjoy a game in the comfortable confines of Tidwell Field. PLAY BALL!
