Supplemental Insurance Benefits
At their own expense, employees may enroll in supplemental insurance programs. Various insurance products are offered each year i.e. dental, vision, disability and accident, supplemental life and cancer and heart/stroke insurance. Premiums are paid by payroll deduction. Cafeteria Plan Benefits (Section 125)
Employees may be eligible to participate in the Cafeteria Plan (Section 125) and, under IRS regulations, must either accept or reject this benefit annually during the open enrollment periods. This plan enables eligible employees to pay certain insurance premiums on a pretax basis (i.e., medical, disability, vision, and dental insurance). The District’s third-party administrator handles employee claims made on these accounts.New employees must either enroll or decline participation in the Cafeteria Plan during their first month of eligibility. To amend or revoke an election under a 125 Cafeteria Plan within the Plan year, the participant must meet Qualifying Event requirements. A Qualifying Event is marriage, divorce, births, adoptions, death, disability, retirement, involuntary loss of employment or insurance for employee and/or spouse, leave of absence, or return from leave of absence and change in eligibility status of a dependent.
Employees may also elect to participate in the Medical Expense Reimbursement or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account programs, which are a tax savings plan, for eligible out-of-pocket medical, dental, prescription, orthodontia and dependent care expenses. A third party administrator handles claims made on Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
