    STATE EXAM RE-TESTS SCHEDULED FOR JULY 10-13

    June 27, 2007 - Current Granbury students needing to take exit-level state exams will have an opportunity to take re-tests, which will be administered at Granbury High School and STARS Academy on July 10-13, 2007. These tests are also open to individuals who have completed all graduation requirements but have not mastered all sections of the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) or the TAAS (Texas Assessment of Academic Skills).

    June 27, 2007 - With two months remaining before the beginning of the 2007-08 school year, teachers and coordinators in Granbury ISD are busy working on curriculum plans for core subject areas, including English/language arts, math, and science. Teachers from all grade levels have been meeting during the summer in order to revise the scope and sequence for those classes.

    SALE OF FORMER CHURCH PROPERTY FALLS THROUGH

    June 26, 2007 - The sale of the former First United Methodist Church property fell through on June 26, 2007, after funding was not received by Granbury ISD in order to complete the real estate closing process. School Board President Jerry Campbell signed documents on June 22, 2007, to finalize the sale. The school district waited four additional days for the buyers to transmit the full amount of the purchase price.

    June 20, 2007 - Judy Gentry, a career and technology teacher at Granbury High School, gained knowledge this summer that will benefit her students when the new school year begins. From June 14-26, 2007, Gentry joined thirteen area teachers in serving as externs through the Tech Prep Consortium at Weatherford College.

    June 19, 2007 - Six students from Granbury Middle School will be traveling to South Korea as part of a continuing student exchange program between Granbury and Sinangun, South Korea. The students who will be making the trip from July 17-31, 2007, are Brandt Colborg, Morgan Kirkpatrick, Zach Price, Luke Urbanovsky, Elizabeth Willsher, and Crystal Wong. These students were among a group of mentors hosting eight South Korean students in January. They were selected based on their academic record, character and moral standing, and willingness to serve.

The conference, which was held June 14-16, 2007, in San Antonio, was organized to provide information and training to school board members from around the state.

    June 13, 2007 - Almost seven hundred food service personnel representing several area school districts gathered in Granbury from June 12-14, 2007. Granbury ISD hosted the conference in which the school officials took part in sessions ranging from food service and safety to nutrition, wellness, and CPR.

    June 13, 2007 - Twenty-seven members of the Granbury High School Pirate Band recently participated in the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest, which was held in Austin on May 28, 2007. Director Kyle Maxwell was pleased with the increased number of medals this year. “All of these students have worked very hard to earn the honor of participating at the state level of competition,” said Maxwell.

    CROSSLAND NINTH GRADE CENTER BUILDING LEADERS THROUGH SUMMER ACADEMY

    June 13, 2007 - Crossland Ninth Grade Center is devoting three weeks during the summer to developing leadership qualities among incoming freshmen. The Summer Academy began on June 11, 2007, with almost a hundred students participating. All of the students recently completed the eighth grade at either Acton Middle School or Granbury Middle School and will be entering the ninth grade at Crossland when school begins in August. Each one had to meet certain criteria in order to be invited to participate in the academy, and school officials placed an emphasis on academic performance and leadership potential.

    GRANBURY ISD SCHOOL BOARD EXTENDS SUPERINTENDENT'S CONTRACT

    June 12, 2007 - The Granbury ISD Board of Trustees met for a regular meeting on Monday, June 12, 2007, and approved a contract extension for Superintendent William Harris. The action extends Harris's contract through the 2008-2009 school year. Board members also approved an 8% salary increase and authorized Board President Jerry Campbell to restructure the contract.

    June 6, 2007 - The Granbury ISD Community Education Office will be offering a Drivers Education Class from July 9, 2007, through August 13, 2007. The classroom portion will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Monday through Friday in the Lecture Room at Granbury High School. Doug Barnett will be the instructor for this session.

The meeting, which will be held from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the school library, was called to share information and answer questions regarding the gas drilling adjacent to the school playground.

    KOREAN STUDENTS RECEIVE TEXAS HOSPITALITY AT GRANBURY MIDDLE SCHOOL

    January 25, 2007 - Eight students from South Korea are attending school at Granbury Middle School as part of an exchange program established between Granbury and Sinan-gun, South Korea, which is located on an island province off the southwest coast of the country. Arriving on January 8 after traveling here from the airport aboard the city trolley, the group has been shadowing GMS student mentors throughout the school day, living with host families, and attending local activities like basketball games and the Hood County Junior Livestock Show.

    GISD SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES MOVE TO SEMESTER FOR GRADES 9-12, HEARS ACADEMIC REPORTS

    January 23, 2007 - The Granbury ISD Board of Trustees approved a recommendation presented by campus leadership from Granbury High School and Crossland Ninth Grade Center to move to a semester system for grades 9-12 beginning with the 2007-2008 school year. The move will replace the current trimester structure in place at both schools.

    January 23, 2007 - Stefanie Mundhenk, a seventh grader at Granbury Middle School, won the Area Spelling Bee held on Tuesday, January 23. The contest pitted winners from six campuses, and Mundhenk emerged the victor after seventeen rounds.

    January 22, 2007 - Two educators at Granbury High School recently received recognition from national organizations. Leta Andrews, coach of the Lady Pirates basketball team, will receive the inaugural Morgan Wooten Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. English teacher Misti White was inducted into National Honor Roll’s Outstanding American Teachers.
