Granbury ISD officially announced on May 19 the appointment of Brad Blalock as the head girls’ basketball coach at Granbury High School. Blalock comes to Granbury from Christoval High School where he held the same role since 2023.
“I am incredibly excited and honored to be the next head coach in a long line of incredible coaches to serve at Granbury High School,” Blalock said. “There is a rich tradition of girls basketball at Granbury, and I look forward to getting to work and continuing to build off past year’s successes.”
Blalock takes over for Alan Thorpe, who announced his retirement after 37 years in education, including his final six years coaching at Granbury. Blalock has 22 years of experience as a basketball head coach, with stops at Christoval, Frisco Centennial, Hallsville, Lubbock High, Breckenridge, and Rockwall.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Blalock to Granbury ISD as the new head girls’ basketball coach,” said Lamont Moore, Director of Athletics. “With a proven track record of winning, building strong, competitive teams, and fostering sustained success, Coach Blalock brings exactly the kind of leadership and vision we were looking for. We’re confident that our student-athletes will thrive under his guidance, both on and off the court."
In his two seasons at Christoval, Blalock went 58-16 with a perfect 24-0 record in district and advanced to the regional tournament both years. While at Frisco Centennial, his teams qualified for the playoffs in four consecutive seasons at the 5A level.
With a proven track record as a program builder and sustainer, Blalock has inherited programs with single-digit win totals the previous year and led them to the postseason upon his arrival. His first head coaching job was at Breckenridge in 2007 where he took over a 1-24 team and led them to back-to-back playoff appearances. In his career, Blalock has led his teams to the postseason 10 times.
Blalock has also been involved with the Texas Girls Coaches Association Executive Committee, having served as President from 2021-23. He was also Committee Chair and Vice Chair for the Texas Girls Coaches Association Board of Directors.
Blalock earned a Bachelor of Science from Hardin-Simmons University. Blalock has been married to his wife Martha for 22 years. They have three sons: Brennan (18), Braden (16), and Camden (12).
