Wes Jones, who has served as Granbury ISD’s Director of Human Resources since July 2016, has announced his retirement following 39 years of service in public education. His tenure in Granbury concludes almost a decade of leadership dedicated to supporting staff, campuses, and district operations.
“In my 39-year career in public education, I have been fortunate to spend almost 10 years serving in Granbury ISD,” Jones said. “I’m thankful Dr. Jim Largent gave me the opportunity to come to Granbury, and I have been truly blessed to work alongside outstanding leaders and staff during my time here, including Dr. Jeremy Glenn and Dr. Courtney Morawski. The relationships I’ve built across this district and community have meant a great deal to me, and it has been an honor to serve Granbury ISD.”
During his tenure, Jones helped modernize and strengthen the district’s human resources operations through several key initiatives, including the launch of the “Meet a Pirate” onboarding program, the “Bon Voyage” retirement recognition program, and the Substitute Mentor Program. He also introduced the districtwide “Favorite Things” staff initiative, led the digitization of all HR personnel files, and established the annual Granbury ISD Job Fair. These efforts, along with numerous process improvements and operational streamlining measures, enhanced employee support, improved efficiency, and contributed to a stronger organizational culture across the district.
Jones brought with him a deep and varied background in educational leadership. A former superintendent, he served in that role for Chireno ISD from 2001–2005 and for Spring Hill ISD from 2006–2014. His career in public education began in 1985 as a junior high teacher and coach in Freer ISD. He later served in school districts in Etoile and Pollock Central before moving into administration as an assistant principal in 1994 at Central Heights ISD in Nacogdoches. Jones went on to serve as an elementary principal in Garrison prior to becoming superintendent in Chireno.
A native of Nacogdoches, Jones attended Angelina College before earning his bachelor’s degree from Pan American University (now UTRGV) in Edinburg. He later earned a Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, where he also completed his mid-management and superintendency certifications.
“Wes Jones has devoted his career to serving students, staff, and school communities with integrity and professionalism,” said Superintendent Dr. Courtney Morawski. “His experience as a superintendent and campus leader brought valuable perspective to Granbury ISD and the human resources department. We are grateful for his service and wish him the very best in retirement.”
Jones’ replacement will be announced at Monday night’s regular meeting of the Granbury ISD Board of Trustees. He will continue serving the district through the end of February.
