Granbury High School Senior Carlee Jo Burnfield Named WFAA Scholar Athlete Award Recipient

Granbury High School senior Carlee Jo Burnfield has been recognized as the WFAA Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The recognition will air on Sunday, March 1 during the “Sports Special with Joe Trahan” segment on WFAA Channel 8.

Carlee Jo has been a four-year varsity soccer player for the Granbury Lady Pirates, serving as team captain for the past two seasons and has earned numerous individual honors, including All-District First Team and All-Region Honorable Mention recognition. She was also named Granbury High School’s Offensive Player of the Year and previously earned Newcomer of the Year honors.

In the classroom, Carlee Jo has demonstrated exceptional academic excellence. She ranks 52nd in a class of 483 students and is a consistent A Honor Roll student. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Superintendent’s Leadership Council.

As a member of the UIL Academics Social Studies Team, she helped lead Granbury High School to a second-place finish at the 5A UIL State competition last year. She earned All-State 5A Social Studies Team honors, as well as first-place recognition at both the regional and district levels.

Carlee Jo will continue her academic journey at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she plans to major in Business and Nutrition Sciences. A proud fifth-generation Baylor Bear, she will be the 25th member of her family to attend the university. She has been awarded both the Baylor Merit Scholarship and the Baylor Invitation to Excellence Scholarship.

The WFAA Scholar-Athlete of the Week program recognizes North Texas high school seniors who excel in athletics, academics and service. Nominees must rank in the top 15 percent of their class and demonstrate meaningful contributions to their school and community.

Granbury ISD is proud to celebrate Carlee Jo’s outstanding achievement and the example she sets for his peers, both on the field and in the classroom. Congratulations, Carlee Jo Burnfield!
