At Granbury ISD, serving others extends far beyond our campuses.
Earlier this month, members of the Granbury ISD Facilities & Maintenance and Support Services departments were traveling between job sites when they witnessed an elderly community member suffer a serious fall. Without hesitation, they stopped to provide immediate care and comfort until first responders arrived.
Those employees, Chuck Matlock, Chris Taylor, Mark Davis, and Sharon Rains, worked together to assist the injured gentleman. During the emergency, Chris remained by his side, offering prayers while the team provided aid during a critical moment.
After discovering they were Granbury ISD employees, the gentleman's wife contacted the district to express her heartfelt gratitude. She shared that their compassion and selfless actions reminded her that "there are still angels among us."
Today, Superintendent Dr. Courtney Morawski and Director of Facilities and Maintenance Dr. Hailey Veron recognized Chuck, Chris, Mark, and Sharon during the district's Facility Committee meeting. Each employee was presented with Dr. Morawski's TeamGISD Challenge Coin in recognition of their compassion, quick thinking, and willingness to help someone in need.
"Our maintenance team serves others every day, often behind the scenes," Dr. Veron said. "What Chuck, Chris, Mark, and Sharon did reflects the character of our entire department. They didn't stop because they had to. They stopped because helping people is simply who they are. I couldn't be more proud of the professionalism, compassion, and selflessness they demonstrated during such a critical situation."
The family also shared encouraging news that the gentleman has returned home and is continuing his recovery.
We are incredibly proud of Chuck, Chris, Mark, and Sharon for representing Granbury ISD with courage and heart. Their actions are a powerful reminder that the people of TeamGISD make a difference not only in our schools, but throughout our community every day.
Congratulations to these four outstanding employees, and thank you for exemplifying what it means to serve others.
