The Hybrid Virtual Learning Model is a proposed option for students in grades 9–12 that blends online coursework with intentional on-campus participation. The model is designed to provide flexibility while maintaining high academic standards, accountability, and strong connections to Granbury ISD schools.
Why is Granbury ISD exploring a hybrid/virtual option?
Granbury ISD is responding to changing student and family needs, enrollment trends across Texas, and new state legislation (SB 569). The goal is to retain students within GISD, expand access to district programs, and offer flexible learning options without lowering expectations.
Is this the same as virtual learning during COVID?
No. This model is intentionally different from emergency remote learning used during COVID. It is a structured, planned program with clear expectations for attendance, engagement, grading, testing, and accountability.
Academic Rigor & Accountability
Will academic standards be the same as in-person learning?
Yes. Students in the Hybrid Virtual Model will be held to the same academic standards as traditional students, including TEKS-aligned coursework, grading practices, graduation requirements, and state testing expectations.
How will attendance and engagement be monitored?
Attendance and engagement will be monitored through a combination of learning platform activity, assignment completion, assessments, and required check-ins, in alignment with TEA guidance under SB 569. Source - TEA SB 569 Overview
Will students still take STAAR/EOC exams?
Yes. All required STAAR/EOC and district benchmark assessments will be administered in person in accordance with state and district requirements.
Will grades count toward GPA and class rank?
Yes. Grades earned through the Hybrid Virtual Model will count toward GPA and class rank, just like traditional coursework.
Student Readiness & Eligibility
Is the Hybrid Virtual Model a good fit for all students?
Not necessarily. The program is designed for students who demonstrate readiness for independent learning, time management, consistent engagement, and academic responsibility.
How will Granbury ISD determine if a student is a good fit?
Students may participate in a readiness review process that considers academic history, attendance, engagement, and support needs. For some students, additional readiness verification steps may be required to ensure appropriate placement.
How will students be selected for the Hybrid Virtual Model?
Students will participate in an application and readiness review process to ensure the learning environment is an appropriate fit. The goal is to support student success and maintain academic rigor.
Can students enroll mid-year?
Enrollment timelines and entry points are still under development. Granbury ISD will communicate opportunities and expectations once finalized.
Can students outside Granbury ISD enroll?
Students in grades 9–12 who live in the Granbury community and surrounding areas and are seeking a flexible public school option. Granbury ISD welcomes interest from students currently enrolled in GISD as well as students participating in other educational settings, such as homeschooling, private schools, charter schools, or online programs.
All interested students will participate in an application and readiness review process. Program capacity and enrollment procedures will continue to be refined as the model develops.
What about students coming from homeschool, private, or online programs?
Granbury ISD values family choice and diverse learning pathways. Students entering from non-traditional settings will participate in the application process and may participate in additional readiness verification to support proper placement and long-term success.
Support & Intervention
What happens if a student struggles in the hybrid model?
The program includes structured support systems designed to help students re-establish successful habits and academic momentum. Support may include increased check-ins, tutoring, and family communication.
Is the hybrid model intended to replace intervention or special education services?
No. All required services for eligible students will continue to be provided in accordance with state and federal guidelines. Placement decisions will consider individual student needs.
Are classes live or self-paced?
The Hybrid Virtual Learning Model includes a combination of structured online coursework and flexible pacing for virtual classes. In addition, students will participate in face-to-face instruction for their required on-campus courses and programs, such as CTE, athletics, fine arts, or advanced coursework. Additional details will be shared as the instructional model is finalized.
How do students get help if they don’t understand content?
Teachers will offer scheduled office hours and academic support. Expectations for communication and response times will be clearly defined.
How is attendance tracked in a virtual setting?
Attendance and engagement will be monitored through learning platform activity, assignments, assessments, and required check-ins in accordance with TEA guidance.
What happens if a student stops engaging?
Students will receive additional support and monitoring. If concerns continue, the district may reassess whether the Hybrid Virtual Model remains the best placement.
Will teachers be available 24/7?
No. Teachers will have defined office hours and communication expectations. Clear boundaries will be established to ensure consistent support while maintaining sustainable workloads for staff.

Online Curriculum & Academic Integrity
What online curriculum platform does the BridgeEd program use?
Our hybrid program will use Subject.com as our online curriculum provider. Subject courses are designed with built-in academic supports while maintaining rigorous, grade-level standards. Independent case study data from Subject Virtual School shows measurable academic growth for both students’ needing remediation and those performing at advanced level. This ensures students receive a structured, standards-aligned, and high-quality online learning experience. All courses are aligned to state standards and are monitored by district administration to ensure quality and accountability.
How does the program protect academic integrity in online courses?
Academic integrity is a foundational expectation of the hybrid model. Subject.com incorporates multiple safeguards to ensure authentic student work:
- Originality and Turnitin integration for plagiarism detection
- Built-in Focus Mode browser lockdown during secure assessments:
- Students cannot open new tabs
- Students cannot toggle to Google or external resources
- Copying and pasting is disabled
- No additional proctoring software required
- Course content is refreshed annually to prevent answers from being posted or recycled online
Additionally, students are required to attend at least one on-campus course, allowing staff to build relationships, monitor progress, and support accountability in person.
