Media Guidelines
News Media Guidelines
Granbury Independent School District seeks to work cooperatively with news media to provide accurate and timely coverage of district programs, events, students, and staff. At the same time, the district is committed to maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment that minimizes instructional disruptions.
Official Spokesperson
The Superintendent of Schools, the Superintendent’s designee, or the Director of Communications serves as the official spokesperson for Granbury ISD.
Media Inquiries
All media inquiries should be directed to the Communications Department:
Granbury ISD Administration Building
217 N. Jones Street
Phone: (817) 408-4006
Email: [email protected]
Exception: Routine athletic or extracurricular coverage may be coordinated directly with the appropriate coach or sponsor.
Interview and Campus Access Guidelines
To ensure student safety and minimize disruption, the following guidelines apply to all media interviews and campus visits:
- Approval Process
All requests for media coverage must be coordinated through the Communications Department. While all requests will be considered, the district reserves the right to deny interview or access requests at its discretion. - Advance Notice Required
Media requests must be submitted at least 36 hours in advance of the requested interview time. A media request is required for any interview involving district or campus administrators, teachers, staff, or students. - Punctuality
Media representatives are expected to arrive on time. If an interviewer does not arrive within 10 minutes of the scheduled time, the interview will be considered canceled and will need to be rescheduled. - Unscheduled Visits
Media representatives who arrive on a campus or district site without prior approval will be asked to leave and directed to contact the Communications Department. - On-Campus Interviews
Media access to campuses during the school day requires approval from the Superintendent or Director of Communications and notification of the appropriate campus or building administrator. - Classroom Access
Cameras and reporters will not be permitted in classrooms unless the classroom teacher and appropriate staff have been notified and it has been determined that the visit will not disrupt instruction or daily operations. - Photography and Video
Photography and video recording are permitted at the discretion of the Director of Communications and/or the campus administrator. - Student Permissions
- Parental permission is not required for general group photos, though it should be obtained when time and circumstances allow.
- Prior parental or guardian approval is required for audio or video recordings of individual students.
- Verbal permission is acceptable initially but must be followed by written consent.
Campus Check-In Requirements
For the safety and security of students and staff, all media representatives must check in at the campus front office when visiting any Granbury ISD campus during school hours.
- Media personnel must present identification upon arrival and sign in through the campus visitor management system.
- A visitor pass must be worn and visible at all times while on campus.
- Media representatives may only access approved areas of the campus and must be accompanied as directed by campus administration or the Communications Department.
- Failure to check in or wear a visitor pass may result in the media representative being asked to leave the campus.
These procedures are in place to ensure a safe learning environment and minimize disruptions to instruction while allowing for appropriate media access.
Athletic Event Press Passes
Media credentials for Granbury ISD athletic events may be obtained by contacting the Athletics Office in advance of the event.
- Press passes are required for sideline, field, or other restricted-area access at athletic events.
- Approval is subject to availability and event-specific guidelines.
- Media representatives must follow all district and campus expectations while covering athletic events.

Social Media
Granbury ISD uses social media as an additional communication tool to share information with district audiences and others interested in our schools and programs.
District social media platforms are updated regularly to highlight student and staff achievements, district events, and other important information. While social media allows us to extend our outreach, the district website remains the primary and official source of information.
District and campus social media pages are maintained by Granbury ISD staff and are moderated during regular business and school hours.
The purpose of these guidelines is not to discourage differing viewpoints, but to protect the privacy, safety, and rights of Granbury ISD students, staff, and community members.
Granbury ISD welcomes appropriate engagement on social media posts. However, commenting may be limited or disabled on certain posts based on the subject matter or intended audience.
