I am thrilled to be a part of the Granbury Middle School Pirate family for the 2020-2021 school year! This is my seventh voyage on the GMS Pirate Ship. Ahoy mates and welcome aboard to a fun-filled adventure in ART. My passion include instilling the values of literacy and the joy of creative expression in my students. I have a varied educational career which has allowed me to explore the many ways in which students learn best. It is my goal to identify and nurture the learning strengths in all of my students so that they have the ability to become the best version of themselves. This is my 19th year teaching middle school art and my 22st year in education.
I am a graduate of Granbury High School and have earned a Bachelor of Science in Arts and Humanities from Texas Woman's University, a Master of Science in History from University of North Texas, and a Master of Education in Literacy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. I have been an educator since 1996 currently holding Texas teacher certification in secondary art, all level reading specialist, secondary social studies composite, all level technology applications, all level theatre arts, English as a second language, special education, International Baccalaureate fine arts and humanities level II, and generalist for all core subjects, grades 4-8. Previous to joining the faculty of GMS, I worked for many years in Fort Worth ISD as a professional eye-opener teaching visual arts, I.B. humanities, and I.B technology design.
Ms. Allen has two adorable fur children: Buster and Augustus, age 6 English Bulldogs. In my spare time, I enjoy attending live theatrical productions, musical concerts, painting, and enjoying my garden patio with the dogs. If I am not in the classroom, you are most likely to find me listening to music and creating art. I love my job!
