January 2020 is designated as School Board Recognition Month, and Granbury ISD is joining with school districts from around the state to recognize the efforts of school board members on behalf of Texas schoolchildren.
Members of the GISD Board of Trustees are: Mark Jackson, president; Barbara Townsend, vice president; Barbara Herrington, Ed.D., secretary; Nancy Alana; Mike Moore; Bob Swearingen; and Chris Willis.
“Our school board members are volunteers who shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices for our district, all without pay. Their goal is always focused on the future success of the children in our district,” commented superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn. “Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say thanks for all they do.”
The theme of this year's recognition is "Launching the Next Generation" reflecting that Texans benefit every day by a group of more than 7,300 men and women in communities across the state, according to the Texas Association of School Boards. These local volunteers are elected by their constituents and receive no compensation for their work as public servants.
“It’s more important than ever before that communities support public education so that today’s students are prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow. Please take a moment and tell school board members ‘thanks for caring about our children and giving so much to our community.’ Let them know we support them and that their dedicated service is recognized and truly appreciated,” Dr. Glenn said.
