LADY PIRATES COMPETE IN AREA SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS

The Lady Pirate Softball team from Granbury High School competed in the Class 5A softball area playoffs on May 2-3, 2019.
The Colony took the area series with back-to-back wins (8-1, 6-2). The Lady Cougars advanced to the regional quarterfinals to face Saginaw Boswell, which defeated District 5-5A rival Burleson (7-0, 4-1).
The Granbury girls previously defeated Fort Worth North Side 20-1 in a one-game bi-district playoff on April 26.
The girls finished the regular season tied for second with Burleson. Both schools finished district play with 11-3 records behind district champion Mansfield Legacy. Granbury won a coin toss to receive second-place seeding for the post-season. Burleson Centennial was fourth with an 8-6 record.
The Lady Pirate playoff team members are Kelby Been, Alison Cooper, Lydia Davalos, McKenzie Hamilton, Lani Hickey, Katlyn Hickey, Bryanna Langer, Taryn Matthews, Rachel McWilliams, Rayli Ruby, McKalyn Rudnicky, Melody Sanchez, Gracie Shelton, Brianna Venable, and Makayla Woody.
Ashley Benson is assisted by Katie Cowan, Billy Dan Chambliess, and athletic trainer Connie Rhodes. Audra Strickland is the student trainer.
