The Granbury Pirates won third place at the Class 5A state golf tournament on May 20-21, 2019, at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown. This marked the Granbury High School’s team third straight state appearance.
Granbury (300-296=596) earned the bronze medal just behind state champion Highland Park (290-291=581) and Boerne Champion (298-290=588). Senior Jake Holbrook (72-70=142) was third individually. Others on the squad were Ryan Ziegler (77-73=150), Ty Holbrook (73-80=153), Jake Piland (78-75=153), and Canyon Winters (85-78=163).
At the Region I-5A contest in April, GHS placed first and took home the regional championship trophy. Jake Holbrook and Ty Holbrook were first and second individually. Earlier last month, the Pirates won first to claim the team’s fourth-straight district championship and swept the top three individual places – Jake Holbrook, first; Ty Holbrook, second; Ziegler, third.
Last year, Granbury placed fifth at state with the team including Jake Holbrook, Piland, Winters, and Ziegler along with Dustin Anderson. In 2017, the Pirates advanced to state after placing second at the regional tournament – with both Anderson and Holbrook members of that squad that eventually placed seventh. Holbrook advanced individually in 2016, when he was a freshman and finished in a six-way tie for 14th place.
