FOUR GHS STUDENT ATHLETES MAKE COLLEGE COMMITMENTS
April 23, 2020
Four Granbury High School student athletes announced college plans during staggered signing ceremonies on April 23, 2020.
The signings were held separately due to the school closure and health restrictions following the COVID-19 pandemic. Students and families were present along with coaches, who only briefly stepped in for the signing and pictures.
Announcing their college plans were:
- Kyler Gibson – football, University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas
- Abbey Griffin – women’s golf, Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, Mississippi
- Afton Haayer – football, Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas
- Clayton Kracy – football, Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas
Both the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders and the Southwestern Pirates compete in the American Southwest Conference in NCAA Division III athletics. Playing in the NAIA, the Blue Mountain Toppers are members of the Southern States Conference while the Baker Wildcats are members of the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
Joining the student athletes were their parents – Leah Haley and J.P. and Becky Williams-Gibson, Chad Griffin and Rebekah Gilbert, Adam and Summer Haayer, and John and Carla Kracy – and other family members. Also present were Lady Pirate Golf head coach and assistant coach Samantha Kennedy along with Pirate Football head coach Chad Zschiesche and assistant coaches Matt Holly, Sonny Galindo, Jason Shahan, Terry Cellars, and Bryan Naradovy.
