Kristen Babiash, a graduating senior at Granbury High School, was the big winner of a $10,000 scholarship sponsored by Tom and Susan Durant through the Granbury ISD Education Foundation announced on June 2, 2020.
A Lady Pirate basketball player, Babiash received the college scholarship as one of twenty-six GEF Scholar Athletes selected not only for their involvement in high school athletics but also for their academic achievements. They represent a cross-section of GHS athletic teams.
Been is the daughter of Kevin and Lynette Babiash. In addition to basketball, Babiash has also competed in cross country, track, and volleyball while in high school. Babiash is also a member of the National Honor Society, and she is graduating as a Top Ten student in the Class of 2020.
Other GEF Scholar Athletes were Payton Bell, Lawson Berry, Macie Blohowiak, Maverick Campbell, Bree Clark, Cash Deason, Miriam Espinosa, Kyler Gibson, Alyssa Gomez, Abbey Griffin, Landon Grizzell, Afton Haayer, Jayla Hall, Alexis Hansen, Morgan Hansen, Kennedy Hinckley, Brock Holmgreen, Clayton Kracy, Kaitlyn Malloy, Gage Molinari, Rayli Ruby, Elizabeth Shelton, Jay Shero, Cutter Willmeth, and Michael Withey.
“We are grateful for the generous donation made by Mr. and Mrs. Durant,” commented GEF board president Stacy Mitchell, who added that scholarships will likely continue in the coming years with further donations. The Durants own a number of car dealerships and are also involved in Thoroughbred horse racing.
