TY HOLBROOK PLACES THIRD AT STATE GOLF TOURNEY
May 19, 2021
Granbury Pirate golfer Ty Holbrook placed third at the UIL state golf tournament on May 17-18, 2021, at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown.
Holbrook shot 143 (72-71) over the two-day tourney, in a three-way tie for third place with Highland Park golfer Thompson Huthnance and Hudson Weibel. After a four-day weather delay, the three decided to share third place rather than square off in a playoff. Preston Cooper from Highland Park (70-71=141) was first, while Trevor Mierl from Austin Anderson (73-69=142) claimed second in the close contest.
A GHS junior, Holbrook advanced from the Region I-5A meet in Lubbock after placing third individually, earning his second state bid. The Pirates finished fifth as a team.
Holbrook competed at state for the second time, following the team’s 2019 appearance to win third place.
At the district tournament in March, the Pirates placed second. Holbrook was second individually, with teammate Tanner Larsen finishing in ninth.
Head coach Steve Ward is assisted by Samantha Kennedy.
