Granbury Lady Pirate volleyball player Missy Varni was named one of the top defensive players in the Fort Worth area by the Star-Telegram on December 7, 2021. 

The Granbury High School senior was honored as First Team All Area Defensive Specialist for posting 992 digs during the regular season. 

Star-Telegram sportswriter Brian Gosset was on hand for the recognition with Lady Pirate head coach Desiree Shahan and teammates in the Pirate Pavilion.
