LADY PIRATE GOLFER TO DEFEND STATE TITLE
April 22, 2022
Granbury High School golfer Mason Lewis will be defending her state title after placing first at the Region I-5A golf tournament on April 20-21, 2022, at The Rawls Course in Lubbock.
Lewis shot 140 (69-71) over the two-day tourney to win the regional championship and advance to state as an individual medalist. The GHS senior captured the state win last year and was later named the 2020-21 Golf Athlete of the Year for Class 5A and 6A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
The regional team from Granbury also included Namsuk Appakam, Akyah Ditto, Presley Grizzell, and Haven Riddle.
The team shot 354 and 364 each day for a combined team score of 718 to finish in seventh place. Individual results were: Lewis (69-71=140), Ditto (89-88=177), Appakam (96-100=196), Riddle (100-105=205), and Grizzell (109-108=217).
On March 31-April 1 in Azle, the varsity squad qualified for regionals after placing second at the district tourney. Lewis was district champion after placing first individually.
The Class 5A state competition is set for May 16-17 at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown.
Head coach Becky Addison is assisted by Samantha Kennedy.
