BAND TOPS AT STATE SOLO AND ENSEMBLE CONTEST

Granbury High School band members scored Division I superior ratings at the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest on May 31, 2015, at the University of Texas at Austin.

Receiving the top mark for solos were juniors Aaron Morgan (tuba) for “Concerto in One Movement” and Brennan Ross (French horn) for “Morceau de Concert Op. 94.” Michael Hand, a senior baritone player, earned a Division II excellent rating for this performance of “Suite for Baritone.”
 
Two ensembles received superior ratings:
  • Flute Trio (“Trio for Three Flutes”) – Lauren Boleng, Tiffany Henney, Allisa Jillson
  • French Horn Quartet (“Fripperies Volume 1”) – Kathlyn Backus, Kelsey Pavelick, Brennan Ross, Lily Thornton
Along with the Texas Music Educators Association’s All-State audition process, the TSSEC is the top musical competition in the state featuring band students who earned a Division I at the regional level with memorized solos and ensembles.
