The Granbury High School Pirate Band wind ensemble received superior ratings at the Peak Festival on May 5, 2016, at the Charles W. Eisemann Center in Richardson.  The band also was honored as Outstanding High School Ensemble for the competition.

For the festival, the wind ensemble performed The Melody Shop March by Karl King and arranged by Andrew Glover, Lincolnshire Posy by Percy Grainger, and Kingfisher’s Catch Fire by John Mackey.

The woodwind ensemble earned the Award for Musical Excellence for their work in “Rufford Park Poachers,” the third movement of Lincolnshire Posy. The clarinet section also received the award for “Brisk Young Sailor,” the fourth movement in the same literature.

Others receiving soloist honors were: Shanon Cooke, piccolo; Matthew Johnston, trumpet; Emma McKelvain, soprano saxophone; Hannah Myers, oboe; Bethany Pavelick, bassoon; Leslie Price, alto clarinet.

The varsity ensemble won UIL sweepstakes honors for the sixth year in a row after receiving the top ratings from judges for both the concert and sightreading performances on April 21.  Combined with the regional marching contest in October 2015, the band won the top prize with Division I ratings in all three parts of music competition.

The students were under the direction of Mark Eastin.
