Nine graduating seniors of the GHS Pirate Band will
be continuing their fine arts experience after high school with college
scholarships. The announcement was made
on May 23, 2016, in the Granbury High School Band Hall.
“I am so pleased
that 60% of the Pride of Granbury graduating seniors will be receiving
scholarship money to continue participating in band at the college level,”
commented GHS band director Mark Eastin.
“As music educators we hope to instill a lifelong love of music and
performing, and I hope this is just the start of things to come for our
program.
Students accepting college band scholarships are:
- Abilene Christian University: Matthew Johnston, Lily Thornton
- Stephen F. Austin State University: Kalvin Hughes
- Tarleton State University: Henry Shannon
- Texas A&M University-Commerce: Cameron Weeks
- Texas Christian University: Reagan Hall
- Texas Tech University: Brennan Ross
- University of Texas at Arlington: Shanon Cooke
- University of Texas at Austin: Aaron Morgan
Six of those – Hall, Hughes, Morgan, Ross, Shannon, and Weeks – plan to major in music education or performance.
“These students
leave behind a great legacy,” Eastin remarked.
